Michael Aderemi ADEOYE

Michael Aderemi ADEOYE was born about four decades ago in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria where he also received primary and secondary education between 1977 and 1988. During his secondary education, he was also apprenticed to a famous master artist, Diran Adeleye, at the D. D. Fine Arts Studio, Ojumose Square, Ado-Ekiti after which he ran his own Art Studio at Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti between 1989 and 1993 to raise money to pursue formal art education.

Already a professional, in 1993 he was admitted  to the Fine and Applied Arts Department of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti where he graduated as the overall best student consequently winning the prestigious Creativity Prize, as the Most Creative Graduating Student (for the 1995/1996 academic session) on the 7th of July 1997. One month later, he was employed as a Visual Artist and Theatre Designer at the Ekiti State Centre for Arts and Culture, Ado-Ekiti, where, for fifteen years, he was further honed in the professional ethics of performance and practical rudiments of Theatre Design, after which he resigned as Assistant Director of Arts, Artefacts and Antiquities and the Head of Visual Arts.

Michael Aderemi Adeoye also received training at the Department of Fine Arts Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (1999-2003), and the University of Ibadan, Ibadan (2008-2010) obtaining Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Fine Arts and Visual Arts respectively. Currently pursuing his PhD in Performance Studies at the University of Ibadan, he is exploring his diverse professional backgrounds in Visual Arts and Performing Arts as relevant grounds to consider the Theatre as a melting pot for all forms of art.

In 2005, he received the National Young Entrepreneur’s Award from the Presidency, Abuja, Nigeria. Adeoye is a member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and Secretary Ekiti State Chapter, Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA), Nigerian Writers Forum (NWF), Ona Arts Movement, Atunda Arts Movement, Best of Ife Group, Institute of Corporate Administration, Smithsonian Institution, USA and RBI-DX Club, Berlin, Germany. He has participated in over twenty-five national and international exhibitions, performances and conferences.

Michael Aderemi Adeoye currently teaches Theatre Design at the Department of Theatre and Media Arts of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria. He is happily married to Olubisi Anthonia with three children Adesunmbo Joanna, Adetola Joseph and Adedolapo Josephine.
